Ibexa DXP V5: Under the hood of the new discounts system

First off let's focus on the new discounts system in Ibexa DXP. This feature is only available in the Ibexa Commerce package. It builds on the foundation of our other ecommmerce component and is an opt-in package that developers can choose to enable.

Since Ibexa DXP is a full stack Symfony Framework application, we like to use components available from this foundation. For our describing discounts we chose to use the Symfony Expression Language (SEL). It is a general purpose expression notation that lends itself well for this purpose as it is easy to extend and can handle complex logic if needed.

With the SEL syntax developers can create discount logic using Rules and Conditions. Rules are used to calculate the amount of discount to be applied. Conditions are used to check if a user qualifies for a specific discount, if there are multiple Conditions then all of those will need to be matched for the discount to be selected.

Users can manage discounts from the familiar user interface. This is done using the new Discount Wizard user interface. Out of the box Ibexa DXP V5 offers common baseline discount methods like fixed amount and percentage. But in our tradition we provide extensible APIs to further customize it by adding new Rules and Conditions.

We're sure designers and developers will find creative uses for these new capabilities and extension points. For example enabling editors to use explicit personalization using user segments and page builder blocks to reward members of a loyalty program. Or maybe something more dynamic by assigning discounts dynamically based on visitor behaviour that you can tap into using Raptor APIs.
